Building a More Equitable Secondary Classroom

Research shows that teacher expectations play a critical role in student achievement, attitudes and motivation. In this participatory workshop we will look at how societal biases and stereotypes make their way into the classroom through teacher expectations, keeping persistent racial disparities in student achievement in place. Participants will be introduced to a set of specific, observable, measurable, culturally responsive, practices and behaviors that will help them hold their students to high expectations regardless of their racial or ethnic group, or current academic performance.
