Creating a Supportive Environment & Reducing Stress in the Secondary Classroom

May 18 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Both teachers and students experience high levels of stress, in school and beyond, for a variety of reasons. Better understanding our stress, its impact, and how it expresses itself in the classroom can help us address stress more effectively. In this highly participatory workshop, educators will explore structures and routines, as well as practices beyond academics, that can help create a more calm, welcoming and supportive class environment for adults and young people alike. We will look at stress and the brain, health impacts of stress, and ways to combat stress more effectively for educators and students alike.

By attending this session, attendees will leave with…
-An understanding of stress and its impacts and how to address stress effectively in the classroom
-Strategies for creating supportive classrooms for students
