Engaging MLLs/ELLs in a Culturally Responsive ELA Classroom with SIOP

November 1 @ 3:30 pm - 4:45 pm

As educators, we know the importance and struggle of having to provide all learners in the ELA  classroom with the same high-quality, academically challenging content, while reaching both native English speakers and students learning English as a second language.  In this session, we will define what a culturally responsive classroom is according to Zaretta Hammond, author of Culturally Responsive Teaching and the Brain as well as introduce the SIOP model developed by Ana Echevarria, Mary Ellen Vogt and Deborah J. Short. You will leave the workshop with tier 1 intervention strategies and a Padlet full of resources that you can implement in the classroom the very next day!  This session is geared towards upper elementary students and middle school students.

By attending this session, attendees will leave with…
– Research-backed Tier 1 intervention strategies for MLLs/ELLs in your ELA classrooms
– A Padlet full of resources that you can implement in the classroom the very next day!
