Participants walk in their MLLs’ shoes by first experiencing the frustration and disengagement that comes with not understanding a traditional lesson taught in a foreign language. A second version of the same lesson demonstrates the power of effective scaffolding in making content and language accessible. The strategies used are then identified, discussed, and unpacked.
By attending this session, attendees will leave with…
– Experience with and debriefing on 8 high leverage strategies for making MLL curriculum and instruction more accessible for Multilingual Learners (MLLs). In the second part of this session, participants will go more deeply into one of the core strategies–Building Schema for MLLs. Participants will work on applying this new learning to their own curriculum
