Facilitating Socio-Academic Success in Diverse Classrooms

September 17 @ 3:15 pm - 4:15 pm

This session addresses areas of critical need and teacher interest within the context of current events, but that are also relevant in determining students’ long-term socio-academic success.  While the shared information and resources can benefit all learners, we’ll focus on our special populations- and specifically, our culturally and linguistically diverse student groups. In this session, we will explore develop our understanding of the three layers of culture and how we can be culturally responsive educators.

By attending this session, attendees will leave with…

– Clarity around the concepts of race, ethnicity, heritage, and nationality, and culture.
– An understanding of the three layers of culture, including the area of collective subconscious- the focus of culturally responsive teaching.
– An understanding of key differences between multicultural education and culturally responsive education
– A clear idea of what culturally responsive pedagogy looks like in the school setting.
