Hidden Among Us: Creating Safe Spaces & a Care Culture for Our Students

April 3 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

The stories of some student populations, including their challenges and successes, have been historically overlooked by the education system. Led by an expert with lived experience, this session addresses how students and educators can collaborate to create safe classroom spaces. With a special focus on children with incarcerated parents, educators will learn and exchange strategies to address bias, create a care culture, and facilitate difficult conversations in a safe space.

By attending this session, attendees will leave with…

  • An understanding of theoretical and research-based approaches for vocabulary instruction
  • Practical strategies for integration of vocabulary into the content area classrooms
  • Methods for providing vocabulary instruction that is differentiated and culturally responsive-sustaining
