How can educators create a classroom where students are willing to attempt and persevere through any mathematical task put in front of them? It takes a lot of deliberate effort to create such a culture, but with some specific strategies, educators can be well on their way to a classroom full of students that welcome discovery and struggle, and understand that mathematics is not something handed down from above but something that makes its own sense. In this workshop, participants will learn about methods for creating a culture of mathematical mindsets in their classroom that lead to both conceptual understanding and procedural fluency in their students. Additionally, participants will explore different problems together that illustrate the mathematical habits of mind and discuss how to develop these habits in their students.
