NCI: CPI Verbal Deescalation and Crisis Prevention with PBIS Strategies

February 5 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Through training in CPI’s Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI), participants will develop prevention strategies for safely defusing anxious, hostile, or unsafe behavior at the earliest possible stage. Participants will learn how behavior escalates and how to respond appropriately in order to verbally de-escalate behavior. This updated course integrates PBIS framework and demonstrates the connections between CPI, PBIS and the FBA process.  By utilizing discussions, role-plays and activities, attendees will leave the workshop with certification in verbal de-escalation by the Crisis Prevention Institute and strategies to support students and staff in moments of crisis. This course is completely virtual and does not include the physical components of NCI at this time.

By attending this session, attendees will leave with concrete strategies to verbally de-escalate behavior and ways to use the school’s current PBIS systems to reinforce positive behaviors for students in crisis. All participants will receive Blue card certification in CPI strategies upon completion of the course and passing the included exam.

Note: Due to materials logistics associated with shifting this session to be virtual, participants must sign up to attend this session by January 27.
