Nine Dimensions of Scaffolding For MLLs/ELLs: Instruction & Assessment Strategies

February 9 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm

Join national MLL/ELL expert Maria Dove in this dynamic session and walk away with a framework for MLL/ELL planning, instruction, and assessment. We’ll zoom in particularly on instructional scaffolding that supports the linguistic and academic development of multilingual learners. Specifically, in the workshop you’ll be exposed to nine approaches to scaffolding—instructional, linguistic, multimodal, multisensory, graphic, graphic, digital, interactive/collaborative, social-emotional, and environmental—detailing instructional and assessment strategies and techniques based on research-informed and evidence-based best practices. Come learn more about the planning of instruction and assessment for multilingual learners with particular concerns for how to support Entering and Emerging newcomer students to participate in grade-level work.

By attending this session, attendees will leave with…

  • An understanding of and ability to identify the components of scaffolded instruction and assessment for multilingual learners
  • The ability to develop and adapt scaffolded approaches and techniques for their students within their own context
  • The importance of maintaining high expectations for multilingual learners and engaging ML students in grade-level work
