Many of our go-to math scaffolds aim to make the abstract more concrete. From manipulative to visual representations, math educators understand the value of these scaffolds. However, when and how do we begin to take these scaffolds away? In this three-part series* with math expert Dr. Nicki Newton, we’ll explore effective math scaffolds, how to introduce them, AND how to begin to phase them out.
In this final session, we will explore the power of goal setting in math. Research shows that goal setting has a powerful effect on student learning. Throughout this workshop we will explore different templates, blackline masters, and goal setting action plans that help students to set and follow math goals.
