This session will focus on culturally relevant teaching specifically for emergent bilinguals (ELLs/multilingual learners). We look at specific curriculum and materials across content areas that reflect the lives, experiences, and languages of these learners and their communities. We will also explore ways to engage multilingual families in diverse literacy practices, virtual spaces, and school involvement. This session focuses on elementary school classrooms, but all are welcome and we will make connections to all grade levels and learning contexts.
By attending this session, attendees will leave with:
– specific materials, curriculum and resources that focus on linguistic, religious, cultural, and other diversities of emergent bilinguals and their communities.
– specific ideas and strategies for family engagement and involvement.
– classroom tools and strategies to get to know emergent bilinguals, their families and communities.
