As educators, our job is to create an inclusive and equitable classroom environment for all students. We can leverage Universal Design for Learning (UDL) as an instructional framework rooted in equitable practices in order to remove barriers so that all students can access learning. Within this framework, to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities, and ensure a free, appropriate, public education (FAPE), we must also provide Specially Designed Instruction (SDI.)
By attending this IN-PERSON session, attendees will leave with:
- ways that existing education practices create inequity for students with disabilities and explore UDL as an educational equity framework
- a toolkit that will deepen understanding of how Specially Designed Instruction (SDI) is connected to grade level standards and supports for Universal Design for Learning (UDL)
- a completed disability justice audit for the classroom
- a plan for strategies that remove barriers for all students
