ABOUT P.I.P.E.L.I.N.E.
(Preparing Impactful Programs for Exceptional Learners Intensive for “New-to-Special-Education” Educators)

Charter schools have always exercised certification flexibility in hiring, but the pandemic exacerbated special education staffing challenges, leading to more designated special education roles being filled by general educators. In response, the Collaborative created the PIPELINE program to train these “new-to-special-education” teachers and their supervisors to support them in learning the fundamentals of special education compliance and instruction. This two-day training for principals/EDs seeks to help break the special education silo and ensure that schools have a cohesive vision for their special education programmatic and instructional supports as we begin planning for next school year.

PROGRAM LOGISTICS OVERVIEW

Leaders are facing more challenges than ever in creating and staffing programs that ensure ALL learners get the supports they need. Our two-day, in-person Principal Institute* will provide essential training around special education mandates and charter flexibility and how they fit into a larger staffing and programmatic vision.

Topics include:
  • Ensuring FAPE for students with disabilities under IDEA and the Charter Schools Act
  • Certification mandates, exemptions, and staffing models
  • Teacher recruitment and retention strategy
  • Master scheduling
  • Progress monitoring
  • Staff onboarding
